The Academia Nacional del Tango (Tango National Academy), founded in 1990, occupies the Palacio Carlos Gardel, a beautiful Argentine "Belle Epoque" building, which also houses the legendary Cafe Tortoni. The Academy operates the Art Gallery of the Graduate School of Tango, dance classes and the Tango Library, as well as the Museo del Tango Mundial (World Tango Museum). It would have been difficult to imagine the Museo del Mundial Tango located anywhere else other than in Buenos Aires. The history of tango can be traced back here from 1850 to the present day. In the Olympus of Glory, visitors pay solemn tribute to the founders of tango, notably Carlos Gardel. Employing images, objects and sounds from all eras, the emotion of tango is vividly rendered through music, dance and song.
